This year, I have the honour and privilege of serving as Chair of the $6 million capital campaign for the West Parry Sound Health Centre Foundation. We have a dedicated team and with strong support from all sectors of our community, I am confident we can reach our goal.
The West Parry Sound Health Centre is an outstanding hospital, which has served our community well. The present limited space and facilities do not allow for future expansion in services and programs. Consequently, the Health Services Restructuring Committee recommended that a new hospital be built on Bowes Street with greatly expanded facilities.
The new West Parry Sound Health Centre will continue to be devoted to the care of the permanent and seasonal residents of West Parry Sound, and will provide the area with the most modern, sophisticated and up-to-date health service facility.
The anticipated cost of the new Health Centre, including the CT Scanner, is $62 million. The Province of Ontario has been extraordinarily generous with a minimum commitment of up to 75% from the Ministry of Health, and 83% from the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines, for the parts they fund. But the Government can't do it alone. The rest of the funding must be raised in our community. Therefore, we will be seeking $10 million in support from our municipalities and from the First Nations. The balance must be raised through our $6 million capital campaign.
The new Health Centre is an extremely important project for the people of our community, so please be as generous as you can and let's all work together to help West Parry Sound.
Make the move of a lifetime.
