Parry Sound, like other communities, has faced challenges in health care reform over the past decade, including:
Increasing financial constraints on public funding, which demand that health care providers do more with less. |
Changes in modern medicine such as laparoscopic surgery, drug-based therapies, pre-op clinics and pharmaceutical treatments, reducing the length of stay for the average patient. |
Increasing proportion of elderly within the population, who generally have a greater need for health care services. |
We will be a 120 bed community Health Centre, and West Parry Sound’s only acute and chronic care hospital, operating many of the speciality programmes and services needed by this area’s 20,000 permanent residents and up to 150,000 seasonal visitors. For the Health Centre to continue to support and enhance its current high standards in community care, it is vital that the hospital relocate to new, expanded facilities on Bowes Street.
